I must be in a ranting mood at the moment. Today, and well yesterday, I am ranting about Microsofts awful awful awful AWFUL new operating system.
It's got to be the most over-bloated, resource hungry, unsupportable security nightmare of an OS ever dreamt up.
It stinks of an ethos of "I'm not going to let you do ANYTHING unless you either manually disable all of my security features, or click a million pop-up windows".
From a support perspective, it's a total nightmare. It's going to make life at work a real headache.
Microsoft, you can take Vista and stick it where the sun don't shine. Everyone, I beg you all, stay on XP!

In some points I agree and others I don't. We had some problems with out vista laptop at work yesterday so I reformatted it and re-built it. The process was very easy with much less interaction needed to install it that XP. I have to agree that the constant security pop-ups are a bit of a nightmare. But I do understand why they've included them. They are there to prevent stupid users from doing something they shouldn't (whether they work, we shall see), but hopefully if someone who doesn't know what they are doing clicks something and a pop-up appears maybe they may decide not to continue. The problem is that users are inherently stupid and so are likely to carry on regardless.
I think that what they should have done was implement another user privilege. Keep the current 'Admin' user which allows the stupid user to install whatever they want on their system (but perhaps with more meaningful messages) and then included a 'Super-Admin' user for knowledgeable people so that they don't get the prompts. Also by default the Admin user account appears to be turned off, I think that it should be turned on by default, so that if something goes wrong with the main user account and you can't get logged in then there is another account to login to. The problem here is that users may try to use the main Admin account without creating their own account which is always a bad idea, so if the Admin account was to be enabled then were should be some kind of irritating prompt every 30 mins or so saying 'this is an Admin account please create your own user account'.
On you last point yes Vista is a total support nightmare, you just try configuring a Japanese or Chinese laptop, XP was fine because I knew where everything was and what menus to select, but Vista is a whole different kettle of fish!
That was a seriously long comment!
